El Studium Generale de Palencia, popularmente conocido como Universidad de Palencia, estaba situado en la ciudad de Palencia (España). Este studium generale fue el primer centro de enseñanza superior de la España cristiana. Fundada en 1212, en ella se enseñaban Teología y Artes (Trivium y Quadrivium), y sus dos alumnos más célebres fueron Domingo de Guzmán y Pedro González Telmo.
Durante el siglo XIII, el Reino de Castilla, al igual que se estaba haciendo en otros lugares de Europa, favoreció la creación de instituciones de enseñanza participando activamente en su desarrollo. El surgimiento de los Estudios Generales en Castilla fue impulsado por iniciativa de los monarcas, basados en la existencia de escuelas catedralicias.
Alfonso VIII de Castilla favoreció enormemente la universidad palentina, dotándola de importantes recursos económicos y contribuyendo a elevar el nivel de la enseñanza impartida en sus aulas con la llegada de maestros extranjeros, sobre todo de Francia e Italia. En este centro universitario la enseñanza se centraba en las artes, la teología y los estudios jurídicos (derecho canónico y derecho civil). Entre los maestros estudiados en la primera época se encontraban Odo de Cheriton, Lanfranco de Pavía, Fornelino y Pedro Lombardo

The Studium Generale de Palencia, popularly known as the University of Palencia, was located in the city of Palencia (Spain). This studium generale was the first center of higher education in Christian Spain. Founded in 1212, Theology and Arts (Trivium and Quadrivium) were taught there, and its two most famous students were Domingo de Guzmán and Pedro González Telmo.
During the 13th century, the Kingdom of Castile, as was happening in other places in Europe, favored the creation of educational institutions by actively participating in their development. The emergence of General Studies in Castile was promoted by the initiative of the monarchs, based on the existence of cathedral schools.
Alfonso VIII of Castile greatly favored the Palencia university, providing it with important economic resources and helping to raise the level of teaching provided in its classrooms with the arrival of foreign teachers, especially from France and Italy. In this university center, teaching focused on the arts, theology and legal studies (canon law and civil law). Among the masters studied in the first period were Odo de Cheriton, Lanfranco de Pavia, Fornelino and Pedro Lombardo

Dieses Studium Generale war das erste höhere Bildungszentrum im christlichen Spanien. Dort wurden im Jahr 1212 Theologie und Kunst (Trivium und Quadrivium) gelehrt, und ihre beiden berühmtesten Schüler waren Domingo de Guzmán und Pedro González Telmo.
Im 13. Jahrhundert förderte das Königreich Kastilien, wie auch an anderen Orten in Europa, die Schaffung von Bildungseinrichtungen, indem es sich aktiv an deren Entwicklung beteiligte. Die Entstehung allgemeiner Studien in Kastilien wurde durch die Initiative der Monarchen gefördert, basierend auf der Existenz von Kathedralschulen.
Alfons VIII. von Kastilien förderte die Universität Palencia sehr, indem er ihr wichtige wirtschaftliche Ressourcen verschaffte und durch die Ankunft ausländischer Lehrer, insbesondere aus Frankreich und Italien, dazu beitrug, das Unterrichtsniveau in ihren Klassenzimmern zu verbessern. In diesem Universitätszentrum lag der Schwerpunkt der Lehre auf den Geisteswissenschaften, der Theologie und den Rechtswissenschaften (Kanonisches Recht und Zivilrecht).
