Si bien vemos en las noticias a los tunecinos, especialmente hombres jóvenes, enfrentarse a la policía o protestar en el Parlamento, detrás de la revuelta que provocó la caída del régimen de Ben Alí, están las mujeres, en especial la abogada Radhia Nasraoui, presidenta de la Asociación Tunecina de Lucha contra la Tortura, quien nada más enterarse de la sublevación de Sidi Bouzid Nasraoui, creó un comité de apoyo a su población. Posteriormente, como suele suceder en estos casos, esta mujeres fueron tildadas de prostitutas..de hecho la policía intentó desprestigiarlas con un vídeo de corte pornográfico.
