Hi. How are you? Welcome back to one more day, from the Canary Islands to the world, with a new episode of this podcast about human rights or other curiosities. A pleasure to be here.
These are times of economic tension, foreigners are seen with resentment by the locals.
Looking at the history of the US, one could say that it was founded on racism, but from its institutions, starting with slavery and going through the suffering of the Chinese migrant population or the black population itself, once freed.
There was a moment in history when the Chinese were accused of stealing jobs from Americans and charging very low wages. The mantra never ends.
They came to the United States to send money to the families they left behind in their country and, in addition, they have to pay back the loans they took out with the merchants who helped them make the long-awaited trip a reality.
During the first decades in the United States, the Chinese suffered an epidemic of violent racist attacks, a campaign of persecution and murders.
And with this I conclude today episode, see you in the next one!
