Hello, how are you? Welcome to this podcast, from the Canary Islands to the world.
Stories of struggle, resilience, and hope from migrants seeking a better future, facing cultural, legal, and personal challenges in new horizons.
When the migrants arrived five years ago, as the migratory flow resumed, one of the things that is usually done is a social intervention, which consists of getting them familiar with the surroundings. What I did was map the area where the reception center is located so they could see where the health center, museum, parks, educational centers, etc. are. One of the activities involved sports. I designed soccer sessions for them at a high school near their home, as I had done during my volunteer work. Why? So they could play sports and share the space with other local youth and avoid conflicts.
Nowadays, it's nice to see a social worker, I suppose, accompanying them to soccer at the gym where I go. Now I feel my job, my project was right!
And with that, I conclude today's episode. See you in the next one!
