When The Toilet Came Into Our Lives

Hi. How are you?. Welcome to "The Satirical Scroll", from the Canary Islands to the world.

I have changed the  topic for this episode . Now, each saturdays you will have a cultural tip.

In the second half of the 19th century, homes began to be built with spaces dedicated to toilets and bathrooms, giving rise to the bathroom as we know it today.

We don't notice technological changes because they happen so quickly, but imagine if they all suddenly arrived at once: the railway, the telegraph, the photograph, which Queen Victoria took full advantage of and had her photograph installed throughout the empire, but above all, the toilet.

In the past, it was placed outside the house and over cesspools, until an inventor brought a toilet to the Great Exhibition in London in 1851. These were both public and private. The reason is that in British homes, the kitchen was on the ground floor, and there was no pressure on the upper floors.

Can you imagine going to the bathroom like that in winter?
