Today I bring you one of the most tragic stories from 1930s Germany. Otti Berger's story.
Otti Berger was a key figure in the Bauhaus weaving workshop, where she stood out not only as a brilliant student, but also as a materials researcher, patent designer, and professor.
When the Nazis came to power, she fled to the United Kingdom, but Otti, who was Jewish, did not speak English and was also deaf, making it impossible for her to integrate. She returned home to Croatia to care for her mother.
Otti Berger met a tragic and unjust end. She was murdered at the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1944.
