Hello, how are you? Welcome to this podcast, from the Canary Islands to the world.
Stories of struggle, resilience and hope of migrants seeking a better future, facing cultural, legal and personal challenges in new horizons.
What happen when we cross borders that separate not only countries, but also cultures, languages, and ways of living? Today I'm talking about cultural identity in migrants. How they transform, fragment, and reconstruct... Join me in this episode to explore this complex process called acculturation.
What is acculturation? The process of cultural and psychological change following contact between cultures.
Types of acculturation:
- Integration (I maintain my culture and adopt part of the new one)
- Assimilation (I abandon my culture to adopt the dominant one)
- Separation (I maintain my culture without adopting the new one)
- Marginalization (I lose ties to both cultures)
And with that, I conclude today's episode. See you in the next one!
If you have any comments or suggestions for future episodes, please leave me a comment.
