Hello, how are you? Welcome to this podcast, from the Canary Islands to the world.
Stories of struggle, resilience and hope of migrants seeking a better future, facing cultural, legal and personal challenges in new horizons.
Refugees and migrants have the right to health, and countries have an obligation to provide health care services sensitive to this population. They have different physical and mental health needs, influenced by their experiences in their country of origin, migration transit, and living and working conditions. The World Health Organization (WHO) carries out activities to address these needs.
While the WHO maintains that migration can improve or worsen a person's health status, migrants and refugees "often face worse health outcomes in transit and destination countries" due to "multiple obstacles."
These barriers range from linguistic and cultural differences to "institutional discrimination and restricted use of health services."
And that concludes this today's episode, see you in the next one!
