MIGRANT LIVES | The Wounds On A Migrant's Skin

There are recurring comments about migrants, especially when they arrive on the coast: that they're dry, that they have a cell phone. Today I want to talk about the skin of these migrants, human beings first and foremost. Their skin tells the story of the harshness of the journey: they arrive covered in crusts of salt.

What's more, and I saw this during my volunteer work: muscle necrosis and skin lesions resulting from limited mobility and prolonged contact with contaminated salt water inside the precarious boat. Two young men in shelters had to have their legs amputated because their ulcers wouldn't heal. You can believe me or not, but it's true.
