The Weaponization of Social Media

Hello, how are you? Welcome to this podcast, from the Canary Islands to the world.

Stories of struggle, resilience and hope of migrants seeking a better future, facing cultural, legal and personal challenges in new horizons.

Do you remeber when you open your social media for the very first time? Do you why?

Social media has strayed from its original purpose — a space for connection and entertainment — and become a breeding ground for misinformation and political manipulation, especially by far-right figures who target governments, journalists, and vulnerable groups like migrants.

And at the center of this shift are new voices: influencers, singers, actors, and far-right figures who use their platforms to attack governments, discredit journalists, and scapegoat vulnerable groups — especially migrants.

When disinformation spreads faster than truth, and outrage becomes the currency of attention, people pay the price — especially those already on the margins.

And that concludes this today's episode, see you in the next one!
