MIGRANT LIVES | Explaining It Again

Hello, how are you? Welcome to this podcast, from the Canary Islands to the world.

Stories of struggle, resilience and hope of migrants seeking a better future, facing cultural, legal and personal challenges in new horizons. #MigrantLives

I had thought about another topic, but with recent events regarding immigration, I feel compelled to talk about it.

I'm going to dedicate this episode and tomorrow's to trying to explain it, again.
Migration is an act as old as humanity itself, and the flows don't have to be equal. I'm referring to the reasons. To say they aren't migrants because there's no war in their countries is dehumanizing. To say that only men migrate is to ignore reality: historically, African migration is male, and Latin American migration is female. But in terms of numbers, it is intra-African, which can pose a challenge and spark xenophobia, as with Zimbabweans or Venezuelans.

When treaties are signed, we must keep in mind that we cannot separate them from other laws: if the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in its Article 13, states that "everyone has the right to migrate," without adding whether or not it includes documents, it is understood that the Immigration Law states that they are in an exceptional situation or administrative irregularity, referring to foreigners who are in Spain in the cases of legal settlement, international protection, humanitarian reasons, collaboration with public authorities, or reasons of national security or public interest,i.e, no one is illegal.

Tomorrow's episode will focus on the numbers and what they contribute.

And that concludes this today's episode, see you in the next one!
If you have any comments or suggestions for future episodes, feel free to drop me a comment.
