Hi everyone, and welcome to this podcast, coming to you from the Canary Islands and reaching listeners around the world.
This is a raw, unfiltered look at the darkest chapters in history. In each episode, I explore dictatorships, hate crimes, and regimes of terror that left indelible scars on humanity. Silenced voices, forgotten memories, and uncomfortable truths that need to be told.
I know what I'm about to share will upset many, but there are episodes of racism in British history, especially toward the Aboriginal populations of its colonies. One of them was Australia, where, despite having its own parliament, the monarchy continues to hold legislative sessions every year.
Let's remember that it was a penal colony, where criminals were sent.
Racism and xenophobia are a structural problem in Australia. The rejection is mainly directed against the Indigenous population and people of Asian and Muslim descent.
Continuing with the definition of genocide, there were systematic and deliberate actions taken primarily by the English and their descendants, particularly during the 18th and 20th centuries, with the aim of eradicating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, languages, and peoples. Motivations for genocide varied and included those intended to preserve a "white Australia" or to assimilate Indigenous populations "for their own good."
Genocide of Indigenous Australians includes mass killings during frontier wars, forced removals of children (now known as the Stolen Generations), and forced assimilation policies by the Australian government that sought to extinguish the identity and cultural practices of Indigenous Australians.
And with that, I conclude today's episode. See you in the next one!
