It is fascinating how the perception of migrants works. Until not long ago, it was accepted that Germans, Britons, or Norwegians, well settled for years in the south of Gran Canaria, would establish themselves, and above all in isolation, like in colonies, and nothing happened because "they don't bother anyone."
Then, back in 1994, boats started arriving with African migrants in them, but we didn't view it negatively either. We hardly even noticed. With the arrival of the 2000s, things changed: constant arrivals, and the perception that our rights were being taken away set in.
Now it happens with Italians who buy houses in the neighborhood, but no one complains about the fact that, perhaps, the sellers were Canarians themselves.
