Hello, how are you? Welcome to The Satirical Scroll, from the Canary Islands to the world.
This is a raw and unfiltered look at the darkest chapters of history. In each episode I explore dictatorships, hate crimes and terror regimes that left indelible scars on humanity. Silenced voices, forgotten memories and uncomfortable truths that need to be told.
Today, I'm talking about that past we haven't left behind. Because even though decades, even centuries, have passed, there are wounds that remain open.
How do you overcome a collective trauma when those responsible are still honored in squares and streets? How can we move forward when silence remains the norm?
Consider the Franco regime in Spain, the concentration camps in Europe, the dictatorships in Latin America. In every corner of the world, there are stories that continue to hurt, not because time has stood still, but because memory was buried without justice.
Forgetting is not neutral. It erases the voices of the victims and protects the perpetrators. And we see this in the denialist discourses, in the manipulation of history books, in policies that prefer not to stir up the past.
But remembering is an act of resistance. Telling these stories is challenging the comfort of forgetting. That's why this space exists: to give voice, to listen, to make people uncomfortable if necessary.
And that concludes today's episode, see you in the next one!
