It's worth remembering that in 2006, the Canary Islands received some 31,000 migrants. This influx disappeared, and with them the centers that protected them. At that time, perhaps the stars conspired and the centers were opened, although no one noticed.
What happened now? The weariness of a pandemic?
Online hate speech shares many elements with racism outside of digital platforms. However, social media facilitates the polarization of ideas and finds resonance where people tend to interact with positions and opinions similar to their own, reinforcing their beliefs. Furthermore, online anonymity provides xenophobes with a sense of virtuality and impunity.
