The Frankenstein Syndrome is a concept that refers to the fear that the very forces used by humankind to control nature will turn against us, with potentially destructive consequences.
Inspired by Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein (1818), this syndrome has been used to describe both an individual psychological phenomenon and a widespread social concern about the unchecked development of science and technology.
I've wondered if the attacks on progressist politicians and activists are due to this syndrome or simply to a loss of power.
