This has been the longest month of my life, basically because, unlike last year, the school year is over for me and all I have to do is wait for my grades.

My autism, although mild, makes me have high expectations and is very demanding of myself, so the wait makes me overthink things. The thing is, my level of discipline means I have strict routines, and I'm waiting to either study for September or relax.

When I watch sporting events, and certain athletes participate with the Spanish national teams, I wonder how long they've been in Spain and how long it took them to regularize their status, because it seems like they've done it through the fast track, especially considering that there's no residency permit for athletes.

What I perceive as a "fast track" has a specific name in Spanish law and deviates from ordinary procedures.

Have you ever seen an athlete debut with the Spanish national team and thought, "How did they do it so fast?" As an immigration specialist, I can tell you that your intuition isn't wrong. It's not magic; it's the legal fast track.

1. The Naturalization Certificate: The Legal "Handpicked" Applicant

While thousands of people wait years for residency permits, elite athletes use Article 21.1 of the Civil Code. It's called the Naturalization Certificate.

How does it work? It's a government-appointed concession granted under "exceptional circumstances." If the Higher Sports Council says that an athlete is a "necessary talent," the Council of Ministers signs a Royal Decree and that's it!

2. The Entrepreneurs Law: The 20-Day Lane

If there's no naturalization certificate, they use Law 14/2013. Forget about overwhelmed immigration offices. Here, they're considered "highly qualified professionals."

The advantage: Decisions take only 20 days. It's a priority visa for strategic sectors. Professional sports qualify; picking fruit or caring for the elderly, apparently not.

In the end, the reality is harsh: the system is a funnel. It's a red carpet for those who score goals or break records, but a bureaucratic wall for those who risk their lives at sea. In immigration law, it seems that "national interest" is valued more than the right to a dignified life.

Come funziona?

BOOKS OF THE WORLD| Ibn Battuta, the Arab "Marco Polo"

For today's episode, we travel to North Africa, to the city of Tangier, in present-day Morocco, to meet a distinguished writer, philosopher, and above all, traveler, whom we could call the "Arab Marco Polo."

We see that from a very young age, Ibn Battuta was passionate about reading, especially works related to geography and all kinds of travel books. Being wealthy, on June 13, 1325, he set off for Mecca with the intention of fulfilling the pilgrimage required of every Muslim to visit the holiest city in Islam.

Ibn Battuta traveled the entire length of North Africa along the coast, barely pausing to notice the scenery, until he reached Alexandria. From Egypt, he journeyed up the Nile to the city of Aydab, located near the first cataracts, before returning to Cairo, unable to embark for Arabia across the Red Sea, as he had wished.

Once he had fulfilled his devotional desires, he traveled to Iraq, Khuzestan, Fars, Tabiz, and Kurdistan, finally arriving in Baghdad. From there, in 1327, he returned to Mecca to live for three years as a professor of theology, a period during which he gained a reputation as an austere and devout Muslim.

But far from stopping there, he reached the fertile Indus Valley, making his way to Delhi. Incidentally, he also visited the semi-legendary African empire of Mali, about which Ibn Battuta provided a comprehensive geographical, political, social, and religious account.

But before departing for the Western Sahara, Ibn Battuta was sent as the sultan's ambassador to the Muslim kingdom of Granada, where he remained for about a year, between 1351 and 1352.

If this literary journey inspired you, please recommend it. And if you have a book that changed your life, tell me about it. Until the next episode!

Greetings to all listeners. I'm back with another episode packed with incredible content. It's an honor to share this space and time with you.

Today I open a book that isn't on any bookshelf: the one that is written with every page that transforms us. We travel the world in search of new stories, because reading is crossing borders without a passport. And every story is a cultural compass.

For today's episode, we travel to North Africa, to the city of Tangier, in present-day Morocco, to meet a distinguished writer, philosopher, and above all, traveler, whom we could call the "Arab Marco Polo."

Herzliche Grüße an alle Zuhörer.

A következő epizódig viszlát!

At that time, John's disciples came to Jesus and asked him, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” Jesus answered, “How can the wedding guests mourn while the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.”

I'm posting this for those who consider themselves super-Christians, putting out a dish of Serrano ham in social media saying "Happy Ramadan", while complaining that Lent isn't being discussed.

Jesus isn't telling us to help out during these 40 days because he's alive. I think it's more of a time for reflection.Matthew 9, 14-15,

Matteo 9,14-15.

Ag an am sin, tháinig deisceabail Eoin chuig Íosa agus d’fhiafraigh siad de, “Cén fáth a ndéanaimidne agus na Fairisínigh troscadh, ach nach ndéanann do dheisceabail troscadh?” D’fhreagair Íosa, “Conas is féidir le haíonna na bainise caoineadh agus an fear nuaphósta leo? Tiocfaidh na laethanta nuair a thógfar an fear nuaphósta uathu, agus ansin déanfaidh siad troscadh.”

Táim ag postáil seo dóibh siúd a mheasann gur sár-Chríostaithe iad féin, ag cur mias liamhás Serrano amach ar na meáin shóisialta ag rá “Ramadan sona daoibh”, agus ag gearán nach bhfuil an Charghas á phlé.

Níl Íosa ag rá linn cabhrú amach le linn na 40 lá seo toisc go bhfuil sé beo. Ceapaim gur am machnaimh atá ann níos mó. Matha 9, 14-15.

STORIES FROM HORROR | Gaza, Is There Anything Left?

It often happens that after a while, some news disappear, but the suffering does not. I'm talking about Gaza. Because, sadly, only the name remains of the strip. The rest is mountains of rubble where the inhabitants, those who remain, are almost part of that landscape, stripped of the humanity they possessed at birth.

Today I want to offer them a little light, just as Ramadan begins this week.

While searching for information, I discovered that in the historic Al-Zawiya market in Gaza City, a few lights illuminate the few shops in a city, but what can an exhausted population do? Without money to buy food to celebrate, without water, without electricity, Gazans try to recreate, even if only symbolically, the atmosphere of the holy month.

What I've seen is that they use the available lanterns and lamps to celebrate the arrival of the holy month, despite the harsh conditions in which a large part of the population continues to live, most of them still displaced.

Keep in mind that Ramadan means spending the day, from dawn till dusk, without food or drink... And they've been doing this for two and a half years, barely eating.

If this story moved you, share it. If you believe there's something that shouldn't be silenced, write to me. We'll talk again in the next episode.
