No pretende serlo.

Seis disparos a quemarropa.

Hello, how are you? Welcome to this podcast , from the Canary Islands to the world.

This episode isn't comfortable. It doesn't intend to be. Today I open pages that many would like to close: dictatorships that crushed voices, crimes hidden under flags, silences that still scream. You will hear fragments of memory and analysis that are unsettling. Because to remember is to resist. Because forgetting is also violence.

Imagine walking along a path where the trees have centuries of history, but the ground is stained with diesel and ash. Since 2012, more than 300 environmental defenders have been murdered in Brazil. They are not just numbers. They are Indigenous leaders, rubber tappers, and farmers who stood between a chainsaw and a sacred tree.

The horror here has names: illegal mining, land grabbing, and predatory agribusiness. It's a monster without a face, but one that shoots from the shadows.

Remember Dorothy Stang, a 73-year-old nun. Her "crime" was protecting a reserve. In 2005, while walking along a rural path, she was intercepted by two hitmen. She took out her Bible and began to read the Beatitudes. The response? Six shots at point-blank range.

Or consider Bruno Pereira and Dom Phillips, who disappeared in the Javari Valley in 2022. Their dismembered bodies were found in a shallow grave.

The true horror isn't just the violence; it's the impunity. In the jungle, silence is complicity. While the world consumes cheap timber and meat from deforested areas, the guardians of the Amazon fall one by one in a war that no one has declared, but that we are all funding.

If this story moved you, share it. If you think there's something that shouldn't be kept quiet, write to me. We'll talk in the next episode.

A resposta?

Conversaremos no próximo episódio.

MIGRANT LIVES| The Return is Not the End

Hi everyone, and welcome to this podcast ,  coming to you from the Canary Islands to listeners around the globe.

In this episode , we share stories of resilience, courage, and hope—tales of people who leave everything behind in search of a better future, while facing cultural, legal, and personal challenges along the way. Their journeys remind us that behind every migration is not just a statistic, but a human story.

Today I'm talking about a topic that touches many lives: starting over after deportation or voluntary return. Because returning isn't always going backward. Sometimes, it's the first step toward something new.

Returning isn't the end. Returning to your country can feel like a defeat, especially if it was due to deportation. But it can also be an opportunity to rebuild yourself. It's not easy. There is pain, there is mourning, there is uncertainty. But there is also life. And there are tools you brought with you.

Even if you return without money or papers, you bring something valuable:

A new language

A learned trade

Work experience

Adaptability

Resilience

And a different view of the world

All of this is important. It's knowledge. And it can become your driving force for entrepreneurship, teaching, leading, or simply living with more awareness.

Reinvent yourself based on what you've experienced. I know stories of people who returned and started their own businesses. If you were in the US, you can teach English in your community, open a small business using entrepreneurial tools you learned, and help other migrants with information. Your migration experience can be your advantage. You don't return empty-handed. You return with a full head.

Healing and Reconnecting. Returning is also healing. Reconnecting with your family, your culture, your land. And also with yourself. There are support networks, there are spaces to share, there are paths to moving forward. You are not alone.

And with this, I conclude today's episode. See you in the next one!

If you have any comments or suggestions for future episodes, please leave me a comment.

And that concludes this today's episode, see you in the next one!

CULTURAL TIP | The Hot Dog: From Germany to the USA

Hi How are you!. . Welcome to “The Satirical Scroll”,, from the Canary Islands to the world.

This is our Cultural Tips section—where we dive into the do's and don'ts of cross-cultural interaction to help you navigate the world with confidence and respect.

Did you know that the hot dog is another contribution from migrants? The frankfurter sausage, with a protected designation of demographic origin since 1860, is the original hot dog sausage in Germany. It was originally known as the dachshund sausage. During the 19th century, thousands of Germans crossed the pond in search of a better life. They were emigrants who, in addition to establishing new customs, brought a new sausage made from minced meat, called frankfurters. However, noticing that those who took it to eat on the street, the classic takeaway, ended up burning their hands, someone asked a baker to create a special bread to accompany it and hold the sausage at the same time.

And that concludes this today's episode, see you in the next one!

Are Ecosystems in Danger?

Hi. How are you? Welcome back to one more day from the Canary Islands to the world with a new episode of this podcast about human rights or other curiosities. A pleasure to be here.

Despite some progress, most protected habitats and species have either poor or bad conservation status. Destruction of habitats, overexploitation of resources, pollution, climate change, the introduction of invasive species, urban sprawl and landscape fragmentation are only some of the reasons behind this decline, which affects terrestrial and aquatic species, their habitats and ecosystem services.

And with this I conclude today episode, see you in the next one!

If you have any comments or suggestions for future episodes, you can write me a comment.

Citizenship School: Another Way of Getting Skills

Hi. How are you? Welcome back to one more day, from the Canary Islands to the world, with a new episode of this podcast about human rights or other curiosities. A pleasure to be here.

Citizenship education develops knowledge, skills and understanding that pupils need to play a full part in democratic society, as active and informed citizens.

Students, and people in general, are taught about democracy, politics, parliament and voting. Additionally they learn about human rights, justice, the law, identies and diversity. Topics such as media and information literacy, climate change and sustainability, financial and economic education.

In times we are living in , I think debates can be a good opportunity to express our worries and, maybe , look for solutions.

And with this I conclude today's episode; see you in the next one!

If you have any comments or suggestions for future episodes, you can write me a comment.

SOSTENIBILIDAD | Cómo convertir el aprendizaje en oportunidad

Hola.

Hello. How are you? Welcome one more day from the Canary Islands to the world with a new episode of this podcast about human rights or other curiosities. A pleasure to be here.

Co-development is understood as a form of cooperation in which migratory movements, and therefore, migrants, become a vector of development in their countries of origin.

Let me explain: a migrant person arrives in Spain and after going through the whole process and, above all, having specialized in something, returns to his country or collaborates with it by launching projects that give employment to his fellow citizens and prevent them from risking their lives.

And with this I conclude today's episode, see you in the next one!

If you have any comments or suggestions for future episodes, you can write me a comment.

Hallo.
