The word "indigent" can be derogatory or stigmatizing, as it often carries negative connotations. In Spanish, there are more inclusive and respectful ways of referring to homeless people, which prioritize their dignity and humanity. Here are some alternatives:
I will repeat it:
- Homeless person: This is the most neutral and widely accepted term, as it describes the situation without judgment.
- Homeless person: Similar to the previous term, it emphasizes the temporary circumstance and does not define the person by their condition.
- Homeless person: This focuses on the lack of access to housing, highlighting a structural problem.
- Homeless person: A more technical term that reflects the complexity of the phenomenon.

STORIES FROM HORROR |When Looking Like a Migrant Is a Crime

Hi How are you?  Welcome to this podcast, from the Canary Islands to the world, when  it's ...

This is a raw and unfiltered look at the darkest chapters of history. In each episode I explore dictatorships, hate crimes and terror regimes that left indelible scars on humanity. Silenced voices, forgotten memories and uncomfortable truths that need to be told.

In Spain, France, Italy, and other European countries, raids have become a tool to criminalize migrant and racialized communities. People walking down the street or in their neighborhoods are arbitrarily detained, simply because of their appearance.

These practices not only violate basic human rights, but also generate fear, exclusion, and perpetuate stereotypes. They are disguised as legal controls, but in practice, they are based on racial prejudice.

In France, raids against migrants in neighborhoods like Calais and Paris are constant. In Italy, especially in cities like Rome and Milan, this practice has also been reported.

In Spain, especially during peak migration periods, arbitrary detentions were documented at bus stops in the Canary Islands. Police carried out checks based on physical appearance, detaining people primarily of Black or sub-Saharan African origin without any clear legal reason, simply for "looking like migrants."

This type of racial profiling not only violates fundamental rights but also criminalizes and stigmatizes entire communities. The normalization of these practices generated fear and social exclusion in neighborhoods and public spaces.

These raids reflect a pattern repeated in many parts of Europe, where security is used as an excuse to discriminate and reproduce xenophobic narratives.

These actions fuel a system of oppression that justifies increasingly restrictive and dehumanizing immigration policies.

Let us remember that behind every number is a person with rights, dignity, and a story. Denouncing these practices is a step toward changing the narrative and demanding justice.

And that concludes  today's episode, see you in the next one!

If you have any comments or suggestions for future episodes, feel free to drop me a comment.

MIGRANT LIVES | Illegal? Your racism is illegal.

Hello, how are you? Welcome to this podcast, from the Canary Islands to the world, when it's the ...

Stories of struggle, resilience and hope of migrants seeking a better future, facing cultural, legal and personal challenges in new horizons. #MigrantLives

Saying "migrants" or "people in a situation of migration" not only emphasizes the humanity of individuals but also avoids reducing them to a stigmatizing category.

Terms like "illegals" or "illegal immigrants" are not only legally inaccurate—since immigration status does not define a person's legal status—but also foster xenophobic and discriminatory narratives.
Existence is a crime, which is false. Irregular migration is not a crime in many legal contexts, but an administrative offense. Furthermore, in the case of the Canary Islands, many migrants are asylum seekers or fleeing conflicts, such as the coups in the Sahel or instability in Senegal, which grants them rights under international law.

And that concludes this today's episode, see you in the next one!
If you have any comments or suggestions for future episodes, feel free to drop me a comment.

VIDAS DE MIGRANTES | ¿Ilegales?

Haigh, conas atá tú? Fáilte go dtí an podchraoladh seo, ó na hOileáin Chanáracha go dtí an domhan.

Scéalta streachailt, athléimneachta, agus dóchais ó imircigh atá ag lorg todhchaí níos fearr, ag tabhairt aghaidh ar dhúshláin chultúrtha, dhlíthiúla agus phearsanta i spéirlínte nua.

Ní hamháin go gcuireann tagairt do "imircigh" nó "daoine i gcás imirce" béim ar dhaonnacht daoine aonair ach seachnaíonn sé freisin iad a laghdú go catagóir stiogmatach.

Ní hamháin go bhfuil téarmaí cosúil le "mídhleathach" nó "inimircigh neamhdhleathacha" míchruinn ó thaobh an dlí de - ós rud é nach sainmhíníonn stádas inimirce stádas dlíthiúil duine - ach cothaíonn siad insintí seineafóibeacha agus idirdhealaitheacha freisin.

Is coir í an bheith ann, rud atá bréagach. Ní coir í an imirce neamhrialta i mórán comhthéacsanna dlí, ach sárú riaracháin. Ina theannta sin, i gcás na nOileán Canárach, is iarrthóirí tearmainn nó teitheadh coimhlintí iad go leor imirceach, amhail na coups sa Sahel nó an éagobhsaíocht sa tSeineagáil, a thugann cearta dóibh faoin dlí idirnáisiúnta.
Agus leis sin, críochnaím eipeasóid an lae inniu. Feicfidh mé an chéad uair eile thú!

BOOKS OF THE WORLD| Anti-racist Readings through Shakespeare

Hi .How are you? Welcome to "The Satirical Scroll", from the Canary Islands to the world.

This is a literary journey without borders. Each episode I explore a work, an author or a literary movement from different corners of the planet. Because books are also passports, and each story brings us closer to different cultures, languages and realities.

Today I'm talking about anti-racist readings through Shakespeare, because, with everything going on in the world regarding anti-immigrant policies, I believe reading about racism is a form of struggle, before they get banned from public libraries.

1. "The Merchant of Venice" is a play written by William Shakespeare between 1596 and 1598. It talks about intolerance, racism, double standards, the way we suddenly and easily raise our fingers to point the finger at others.

2. "Othello" directly addresses the most current issues: fake news, women's rights, envy, fear of those who are different, racism, and irrational jealousy.

3. In "The Tempest", Caliban is portrayed as a racialized colonial subject of the British Empire in the 19th century. First, Sycorax, restored to her maternal position, remains a supernatural force like a witch-ghost. Both she and her son are explicitly identified as African, and the play's action is geographically tied to the continent's west coast, linking the relationship between the European and African characters to the context of the British slave trade.

Thank you for tuning in to "The Satirical Scroll"! If you enjoyed today's episode, please take a moment to reflect on what was explained here. Feel free to leave me a comment.

Hello, how are you? Welcome to this podcast, from the Canary Islands to the world.

This is a literary journey without borders. Each episode explores a work, an author, or a literary movement from different corners of the planet. Because books are also passports, and each story brings us closer to different cultures, languages, and realities.

I will never renounce my training as a sociocultural facilitator, so while reading "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen, I decided to post on the university forum how I would organize a ball for the characters to attend, specifically to find a husband. Being inclusive, I would admit anyone.

And with this, I conclude today's episode. See you in the next one!

If you have any comments or suggestions for future episodes, please leave me a comment.
