Only those of us familiar with NGOs know how they work:
Inside, there are different services: social workers, doctors, psychologists, teachers. There are paid staff and volunteers.
But I want to focus on the inclusion program. One of these programs is where I started volunteering: the socio-educational program. I gave them Spanish classes, which they learn very quickly. Over time, I participated in workshops and talks that they also gave. Yes. With willpower and effort, they've succeeded.
Ní bhíonn a fhios ach ag na daoine againn a bhfuil eolas acu ar eagraíochtaí neamhrialtasacha conas a oibríonn siad:
Taobh istigh, tá seirbhísí éagsúla: oibrithe sóisialta, dochtúirí, síceolaithe, múinteoirí. Tá foireann íoctha agus oibrithe deonacha ann.
Ach ba mhaith liom díriú ar an gclár cuimsithe. Ceann de na cláir seo is ea an áit ar thosaigh mé ag obair dheonach: an clár sochoideachasúil. Thug mé ranganna Spáinnise dóibh, a fhoghlaimíonn siad go han-tapa. Le himeacht ama, ghlac mé páirt i gceardlanna agus i gcainteanna a thug siad freisin. Tá. Le willpower agus iarracht, tá siad éirigh.
Is e dìreach an fheadhainn againn a tha eòlach air NGOn a tha eòlach air mar a tha iad ag obair:
Taobh a-staigh, tha diofar sheirbheisean: luchd-obrach sòisealta, dotairean, saidhgeòlaichean, tidsearan. Tha luchd-obrach pàighte agus saor-thoilich ann.
Ach tha mi airson fòcas a chuir air a’ phrògram in-ghabhail. Is e aon de na prògraman sin far an do thòisich mi ag obair gu saor-thoileach: am prògram sòisio-oideachail. Thug mi clasaichean Spàinntis dhaibh, a bhios iad ag ionnsachadh gu math luath. Thar ùine, ghabh mi pàirt ann am bùthan-obrach agus òraidean a thug iad seachad cuideachd. Tha.

- Incomodidad o desconocimiento:
- Algunos no saben cómo enfrentar esos temas o prefieren evitarlos.
I also implemented an activity in which I featured Messi or Shakira, and a pic of a small boat used by irregular migrants... The objectives were:
- Social and media selectivity: how is it decided who deserves visibility and who doesn't?
- The privileges linked to fame, success, or nationality versus the stigmatization of poverty and irregular migration.
- The prejudices and stereotypes that underpin social exclusion.
The impact? My own classmates in sociocultural animation and the teacher either laughed at me or ignored me.
Why might they react this way?
- Discomfort or ignorance:
- Some don't know how to address these topics or prefer to avoid them.
- Disconnection with the message: Not everyone is prepared to connect famous people with profound social issues.
- Group dynamics:Sometimes, in groups, mockery arises to divert attention or avoid uncomfortable discussions.
- Lack of training in sociocultural communication:Colleagues or teachers don't always have the tools to understand the educational power of these contrasts.

After watching a TV program, my mind began to ruminate, typical of an autistic person like me, about my project "Racism and Xenophobia in Sports," which I taught for several years in schools on the island. I wondered if it would be possible to do it again, considering what's happening. Listening to a teacher, I was frightened by the audacity with which some young people confront me.
My way of working consists of presenting a series of athletes who have experienced racism, and I open a debate. It's up to them to think and express their ideas. That's debate. What was surprising was when a teacher told me that after the talk they stayed up talking about things like the burkini, something I didn't mention, only Islamophobia as a hate crime, or that the kids were discussing their debate with others who hadn't yet done so during recess.
Signs of Project Impact
- When participants continue the discussion outside of formal activity time (for example, during recess or in informal settings), it is a clear sign that they found the topic interesting and relevant.
- The appearance of topics such as the burkini in conversations, even if they were not explicitly mentioned in the initial discussion, suggests that the project stimulated reflection and opened a space for questioning and discussing ideas about diversity, rights, and coexistence.
- The fact that students explain and debate with other classmates who have not yet participated demonstrates a dissemination and multiplier effect, which is generally considered an indicator of success in educational projects.
If students are accusing you of indoctrination because you are making them think.

STORIES FROM HORROR| Empathy on Paper, Hell in the Office
Hello, how are you? Welcome to this podcast, from the Canary Islands to the world.
This is a raw, unfiltered look at the darkest chapters in history. In each episode, I explore dictatorships, hate crimes, and regimes of terror that left indelible scars on humanity. Silenced voices, forgotten memories, and uncomfortable truths that need to be told.
Today, I'm going to denounce the bullying I suffered for a time during my volunteer work. To this day, I don't even know why. I just wanted to do my job.
How did the bullying manifest itself? Preventing me from doing activities, mocking my physical appearance because I was overweight , mocking my ideas when I wanted we participate in events, and stealing them. Normally, it is a very female job, and women used to gaslif¡ght other women.
What effect did it have on me? I was already suffering from low self-esteem after dropping out of college, so I wanted to use the time to help. And I took advantage of it because I trained in sociocultural animation, specializing in immigration and social integration, which makes it easier for me to help my elderly parents. I don't regret a thing.
And with that, I conclude today's episode. See you in the next one!
If you have any comments or suggestions for future episodes, please leave me a comment.
